About

Hi, my name is Donna.  I started this blog to promote jewelry that I made, but it evolved over time into mostly a beauty blog. That was way back before You Tube Beauty bloggers took over the make-up and beauty world. I had always felt comfortable pushing the boundaries with clothes and make-up, but I knew a lot of people who weren't comfortable with it. I felt like they were missing out and maybe I could write some posts that would encourage them. As time went on I cut out the make-up tutorials since I realized that there were women out there doing them at levels way above where I am in skills. Of course most of them are young and it's much easier to do make up when your skin is tight and springs back into the same place all of the time.
As much as I hate to admit it, I am a middle-aged woman.  I'm noticing changes in my skin that affect how I need to put on my make-up.  Lining your eyes becomes much more difficult once your skin is sagging there. But that doesn't mean that we have to give up or only wear minimal nude-colored make-up!

I've also added sections on other topics that I'm interested in.  I've always loved fashion, but when I got older and my weight went up and up, I discovered how hard it was to find unique, cool things in plus-sizes. It gave me a new understanding of women who can't wear the clothes made for standard sizes. As if a slowing metabolism isn't bad enough, when you are middle-aged or older, you gain weight in different places than when you're younger. Most of it accumulates on your torso, so suddenly you have larger breasts than you've ever had, you can't get rid of the fat around your waist, and gravity starts pulling everything downward.  It is true that getting older is not for the faint of heart.  So I now write a fair amount of posts about aging, including health and fitness. I am all about my Fitbit right now.

I also wanted to write some informative posts about my cats, because there was so much I didn't know until they got some new illness.  This year has been very difficult, though, as I've lost 2 that I loved a lot. I haven't been able to bring myself to write that much about that, but maybe I will as more time passes.

And when I remember I write my thoughts about some of my favorite TV shows.

I'm not the type of person who conforms to the mainstream, and I don't give up easily.  So my taste in fashion, beauty, TV, and music is all over the place.  If you want to get in touch with me, email me at djc389@icloud.com. You can follow me on Twitter by using this link:  www.twitter.com/whatupchick, although my posts there are almost always about a TV show like Project Runway or The Walking Dead.  On Instagram I'm @prettysparklythings. I don't post as often as I used to, but I hope that you find something helpful or at least entertaining here. Have a great day!
